Hyundai Ioniq (2016 - present)
Having conquered the new car market with the Tucson last year, Hyundai have added another exciting new model to their expanding range in the shape of the all new Ioniq. Hedging their bets on where the future of motoring is going to land, the Ioniq will be available in three different powertrains – a fully electric version, a Hybrid, and before the end of the year, a plug-in Hybrid. As it stands, the range on the fully electric Ioniq will be class-leading at 280km. The Hybrid will be powered by an electric motor paired with a 1.6l Kappa petrol engine, designed especially for the Hybrid powertrain. The plug-in will be able to offer the best of both worlds when it arrives in March. Other than the alternative choice of powertrains - it's very much your typical family hatchback. The cabin is spacious and practical, with enough room for five, and the boot is a good size (although the load capacity is smaller on the fully electric model due to the battery). It comes with an exceptional level of equipment as standard, and considering the fuel-saving potential, an impressively low asking price. One of the more exciting launches of the last few years.
